Terms of Service
Effective 15 September 2026. Last updated 29 September 2026.
1. Agreeing to these terms
These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) are an agreement between you and StudyGPT covering your use of the StudyGPT mobile app, the StudyGPT website, and anything we provide through them (together, the “Service”).
You agree to these Terms when you sign in to the app. The sign-in screen says so, and signing in is what acceptance means. Our Privacy Policy forms part of these Terms — it explains what we collect and what we do with it, and you should read it too.
If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the Service.
2. Who you are dealing with
StudyGPT is operated by a sole proprietor based in Ontario, Canada. You can reach us about anything in this document at [email protected].
Apple is not a party to these Terms.
3. Who can use StudyGPT
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live, to agree to these Terms on your own.
If you are under that age, you may use the Service only with the involvement and permission of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf and accepts responsibility for your use of it.
The Service is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly provide it to them or collect their information. If we learn that a child under 13 has created an account, we will delete it and the information it holds.
4. Your account
You sign in to StudyGPT with Apple, and that is the only way in. We receive whatever your Apple ID provides — which may be a private relay address rather than your real email, and that is fine.
- Your account is yours. Please do not share it, and do not create more than one account for yourself.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account, and for keeping your Apple ID secure.
- You can delete your account at any time from within the app. Deleting it removes your study sets, your uploaded files and your profile.
5. What the Service does
StudyGPT turns material you provide into study material. You can give it typed or pasted text, PDF documents, audio you record, photographs from your library or camera, and YouTube links. It uses artificial intelligence to produce study sets from them — notes, flashcards, quizzes, an exam built from each set's own flashcards and quiz questions, an AI Tutor you can ask questions, and a Solve tool for working through a problem you photograph.
We are still building StudyGPT, so features may be added, changed or withdrawn over time. We will not remove something significant without a good reason.
6. Your content, and the permission you give us
Everything you upload or create in StudyGPT — your documents, recordings, photographs, links, notes, and the questions you ask the AI Tutor — stays yours. We do not claim ownership of any of it.
To run the Service, we need your permission to handle it. You give us permission to store your content, process it (including sending it to our AI provider to generate study material from it), and show it back to you inside the app. That is the whole of it, and it exists only so the Service can work.
We do not use your content to train AI models, and no human reviewer at our AI provider reads it. We use a paid tier of Google's Gemini API specifically so that this is true. Our Privacy Policy explains this in more detail.
This permission ends when you delete the content or your account. We do not sell your content, and we do not share it with anyone except the service providers listed in our Privacy Policy, who process it on our behalf.
You confirm that you have the right to upload what you upload — that it is yours, or that you are allowed to use it. Uploading a copyrighted lecture, textbook or recording that you have no right to use is your responsibility, not ours.
7. How you may use StudyGPT
Please use the Service for studying. You agree not to:
- upload anything unlawful, or anything that infringes someone else's rights;
- use the Service to harass, harm or impersonate anyone;
- access the Service with scripts, bots or automated tools, or try to work around its limits;
- attempt to reverse engineer, decompile or extract the underlying models or prompts;
- resell the Service, or share an account with other people;
- interfere with the Service's security or availability, or with anyone else's use of it.
8. AI-generated material, and what it is not
StudyGPT's notes, flashcards, quiz questions, tutor answers and solutions are produced by an AI model. They can be wrong. They can be incomplete, out of date, or confidently mistaken about something. Please check anything that matters against your own source material before you rely on it.
AI-generated material is for studying. It is not professional, medical, legal or financial advice, and it is not a substitute for your course materials or your instructor.
Your school's rules are yours to follow. StudyGPT is a study aid, and most institutions permit study aids — but rules about AI vary, and some assessments prohibit it. Using StudyGPT in a way that breaches your institution's academic integrity policy is your responsibility.
9. Subscriptions and payment
StudyGPT has a free tier and a paid subscription. The plans available, what they cost, and the usage limits that apply to each are described in the app and on this website, and those descriptions form part of these Terms. We have kept them out of this document on purpose, so that we can improve a plan without rewriting a contract.
- Apple handles the money. Subscriptions are sold as in-app purchases through the App Store. Payment is charged to your Apple ID, not to us — we never see or store your card details.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period until you cancel, and your Apple ID is charged for each renewal.
- You cancel through Apple, in your Apple ID subscription settings, at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Cancelling stops future renewals; it does not shorten the period you have already paid for, and you keep access until it runs out. We cannot cancel a subscription for you.
- Refunds are Apple's to give, not ours. All purchases are handled by Apple and are non-refundable by us. If you want a refund, request it from Apple. Nothing here affects rights you have under consumer law that cannot be waived.
- Cancelling is not the same as deleting your account, and deleting your account does not cancel your subscription. If you want both, do both.
10. Changes to plans, prices and limits
We may change prices, plans and usage limits. How that affects you depends on what you are on:
- If you are subscribed and a change makes your plan better, it applies straight away. If a change reduces what your plan includes, or raises its price, it will not take effect until your next renewal, and we will tell you before then so you can cancel if you would rather not continue. Apple will also ask you to confirm a price increase.
- If you are on the free tier, we may change its limits at any time. The free tier is offered as-is and we may change or withdraw it.
11. Fair use
Paid plans are generous rather than infinite. There are limits behind them, described in the app, and they exist to stop abuse rather than to ration ordinary studying — almost nobody studying normally will reach them.
If you do reach a limit on a paid plan, we would rather let you keep working than stop you, and we generally will. But we may step in where use looks automated, fraudulent, shared across people, or so far beyond normal study that it costs us more than it reasonably should. If that happens we will contact you first wherever we can.
12. Availability
We want StudyGPT to work all the time, and we cannot promise it will. The Service depends on other companies — Apple, our hosting provider, and our AI provider — and any of them can have an outage that we cannot prevent or fix.
The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We may take it down for maintenance, and we may change or discontinue parts of it.
13. Our content
Everything in the Service that is not yours — the app, the website, the design, the name, the logo, the software and the wording — belongs to us or to the people we license it from. Please do not copy, resell or reuse it without our permission.
If you send us an idea or a suggestion, thank you. We may use it freely and without owing you anything for it. Please do not send us anything you consider confidential.
14. Ending things
You can stop using StudyGPT whenever you like, and you can delete your account from inside the app.
We may suspend or close your account if you breach these Terms, if your use puts the Service or other people at risk, or if we are required to. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you why and give you a chance to put it right first.
When an account ends, access ends with it and the content in it is deleted. Sections 6 (as to content already deleted), 13, 15, 16, 17 and 19 survive.
15. Limits on our liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses — lost profits, lost opportunities, lost data, or the consequences of relying on something the AI got wrong.
To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for everything connected with the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.
Some things cannot be limited, and we are not trying to limit them. Ontario's consumer protection law gives you rights that cannot be signed away, and nothing in these Terms removes or reduces them. If any part of this section is not permitted where you live, that part does not apply to you and the rest still does.
16. If you cause us a claim
If someone brings a claim against us because of what you uploaded, how you used the Service, or because you broke these Terms, you agree to cover the reasonable costs of dealing with it.
17. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. If a change is significant, we will tell you — in the app, by email, or by posting a notice — before it takes effect. The date at the top always says when the current version came into force.
If you keep using StudyGPT after a change takes effect, you are agreeing to the updated Terms. If you do not agree, you can stop using the Service and delete your account.
18. Which law applies
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Any dispute goes to the courts of Ontario, and you and we both agree to that.
If you live somewhere else, you may have the right to bring a claim in your own local courts, and nothing here takes that away.
19. Everything else
- These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us about the Service.
- If part of these Terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands.
- If we do not enforce something straight away, we have not given up the right to enforce it later.
- You cannot transfer these Terms to someone else. We may transfer them if our business is sold or reorganised.
- We are not responsible for failures caused by things genuinely outside our control.
- These Terms do not make either of us the other's partner, agent or employee.
